Krispy Kreme’s new Dr Pepper Kickoff Donut features an Original Glazed Donut topped with a ring of Dr Pepper-flavored frosting, a burgundy sprinkle blend, and a white chocolate Dr Pepper logo.
The donut costs $3.09 at my nearest Krispy Kreme or $23.99 as part of a Kickoff Collection Dozen. I received a dozen courtesy of Krispy Kreme.
Whoever made my particular batch of donuts was very generous with the Dr Pepper frosting as there was plenty of frosting in every bite.
The frosting tasted like creamy Dr Pepper. If you’ve never had Dr Pepper, I would describe it as cherry cola plus. The plus is for the other 22 flavors of Dr Pepper that aren’t cherry.
The donut was light and airy, which is typical for the Original Glazed. I found myself wishing it wasn’t glazed as it muted some of the Dr Pepper taste. The sprinkles added a nice crunch while the white chocolate logo made for an extra dessert for after the donut.
The other donuts in the Kickoff Collection, the New Buttercreme Goals Donut and the Kreme Filled Football Donut are just decorate takes on regular menu donuts. They do make for a nice look if you’re throwing some sort of football get-together.
Dr Pepper is not my favorite soda but the Dr Pepper Kickoff Donut was still enjoyable and delivered the soda’s flavor in donut form.
